Writing tips

Whether you're working on a grant proposal, a fellowship application or your thesis, having a professional look over your work can make a huge difference in your final product.

Here are some starter tips and links to help you along your way:

  • Remember the basics of elementary school writing: subject, verb, object. Don't get so complicated that what you're trying to say is lost.
  • In fellowship applications, every quality and example you cite should drive to the point of why you are the best person for the award. If it's not relevant, find something that is.
  • Make an outline before you start. Even if it's a few words, it will help you direct the flow of your ideas.
